Feeling Jealous of Kylie’s Soon to be Billions?

How does it feel slaving away at your 9-5 job after spending the last 4+ years acquiring an education and a mountain of student loans just to make ends meet? Pretty freaking terrible when you see headlines like “Kylie Jenner set to be the youngest-ever self-made billionaire” *eye roll*

When we reflect back on other self-made billionaires, we see the hard work, dedication, and grit it took to get there. We see how Sara Blakely sold printers door to door before inventing Spanx. How Mark Zuckerberg was a Harvard drop out but soon created Facebook. We see the struggles and obstacles these people had to overcome to become the inspiring entrepreneurs they are today. And then there’s Kylie Jenner. Sure she invested $250,000 of her own money… which happened to be easily earned with the help of Kris Jenner who capitalized off of a sex scandal to bring the Kardashian name to fame. It’s natural to feel bitter when we see the success Kylie Cosmetics has amounted to when we know posting selfies on Instagram to millions of followers isn’t necessarily considered to be “hard work”.

But in life aren’t we told to take advantage of our opportunities? I’m sure everyone hears that growing up, to take advantage of every single opportunity you have. The opportunity to have an education, leveraging your parents jobs to get ins for our own career, getting through college with some financial help, these are all great opportunities that we take when given the chance. So why do we feel so bitter towards the Kardashian empire. Towards Kylie’s easy path to success. Wouldn’t we do the same? (minus the sex tape of course). Life is full of envy, jealousy, and bitterness. We want what we can’t have and what opportunities we aren’t given. Don’t let the lack of opportunity stop you from achieving greatness. Life is not fair, and it was not intended to be that way. Some have easier paths than others, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all get there. Always shoot for the stars, follow your dreams, and put jealousy aside. Make the most of the life you have and the opportunities you are given, because what everyone else is doing simply just doesn’t matter.

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Take a Girls Trip

We all get stressed. Life is hard. It becomes overwhelming and busy and complicated and we all get close to that breaking point. If this depression is something you thrive off of, by all means use every ounce of your free time to stressfully binge watch Netflix while thinking about the laundry list of household chores, grocery shopping, and work you have to do. And if you want to maintain those tight knots in your upper back and increase the number of worry lines on your face by all means DO NOT take a girls trip.

You should NEVER take a girls trip . . . .

  1. If you love stress. If you truly love being wound up in life’s stress I advise you stay far away from the next girls trip because you will be forced to unwind, let loose, and relax. You might experience ACTUAL fun, which is terrifyingly different your “9 to 5” structured life. YIKES.
  2. If you live to work. If you live to work and hate being reminded of all the exciting things life has to offer, DO NOT go to Cancun with your bestie gals. On a trip like that you might just experience what it’s like when you work to LIVE and get a breath of fresh air from your every day life. Even worse, you might remember why you work so hard *gasp*
  3. If you despise laughter. Mixing all your girls with a sunshine filled beach is a recipe for uncontrollable laughter to the point of tears. If you don’t want to smile ear to ear with tears rolling down your cheeks and laughing until your stomach hurts, you better unpack your bags. After this trip you’re bound to have endless ongoing jokes and laughs that will last for years to come. This kind of enjoyment can be highly invasive and reverse effects of the stress you may be trying to maintain.
  4. If you hate feeling loved and cared for. There’s no better place to be smothered in hugs and be told how much you’re loved (especially when you hit that right kind of tipsy) than when you’re with your girls. If you can’t stand the thought of spreading the love to your lifetime best friends who are practically your sisters, avoid a girls trip. Because when you go to the tiki bar with your besties, let me tell you there will be many heart to hearts and on at least one occasion your heart may burst of love and happiness.
  5. If you can’t bare the thought of making memories that will last a lifetime. What happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas, but the memories can never be forgotten . . . well most of them 😉 On your girls trip you will make the memories of a lifetime that will bring you a smile while reminiscing even on the worst of days. If you want all of your bad days to stay bad, run far far away from that girls trip because it’s insane how much happiness a vacation with your best friends will bring.

Kelsey and I have started this new thing that when we facetime, we randomly give each other tutorials on things we do. I gave a pretty great one about making a quesadilla while drunk, honestly I wish it was recorded because I think it would’ve been beneficial for all to see.

Kelsey once showed me her skin care routine, and with that she showed me that she uses the all powerful Thayers Witch Hazel toner. I have seen this toner EVERYWHERE, all over beauty blogs, YouTube, and BuzzFeed. But for some reason I could never commit to buying it because I doubt their reviews. It wasn’t until Kelsey gave all of her praise for this toner that I finally bought myself some, and man have I been missing out.

I think I tend to trust getting advice and opinions from friends. There are some things I use because of beauty gurus (Manny MUA is the reason I use shape tape and let me tell you MY LIFE WAS CHANGED). But I think having opinions from real people is more beneficial because you know they aren’t being paid to say certain things or promote certain items.

And with that I’ve decided to share my 7 favorite items right now, since I’m a real person with real opinions. These are not mainly makeup items, since I’ve been using the same products for months, these are more of skincare items I swear by.

1.) Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Waterproof Makeup Remover, 3.4 Fl Oz

I wear A LOT of eye makeup. I tend to have two types of concealer under my eyes (notorious for dark bags), eye shadow primer, lots of eye shadow, eye liner, and a hell of a lot of mascara. This is the only eye makeup remover I have used that does not sting my eyes, require a million applications, or leave my skin feeling oily. I use this to also remove any dark lipstick from my face and instead of smearing it all over my mouth, it picks it all up and it’s gone.

2.) Equate Beauty Refreshing Wet Cleansing TowelettesEquate Beauty Refreshing Wet Cleansing Towelettes, 40 Ct

Ya girl is on a budget. I can spend sooo much money on clothes from target and high end makeup, but for some reason don’t care as much as I should about skincare. When it comes to makeup, as I mentioned previously, I tend to wear a lot. I have a full coverage foundation I wear with setting powder, bronzer, and blush most days. As soon as I am home for the day the first thing I do is take all of my makeup off. These wipes do the job and do it well. Everything comes off with one wipe and leaves my face feeling soft and clean.

3.) Aztec Secret – Indian Healing ClayAztec Secret - Indian Healing Clay - 1 lb. | Deep Pore Cleansing Facial & Healing Body Mask | The Original 100% Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay

Let me tell you. This is heaven in a jar. I have always struggled with acne and extremely oily skin.  Because of this I’ve tried every single face mask under the sun (this is dramatic and untrue). But I love me a mud mask. I bought this off amazon a few weeks ago along with some apple cider vinegar and I have not seen as big of an improvement in my skin in YEARS. My oil production has lowered (I swear on my life, I no longer gush oil every single day, it’s more of a glisten), and my skin has started to clear up. I do use this product more than it is recommended (about four-five times a week versus the two they recommend) but I just can’t stop.

4.) Tend Skin Care Solution

Tend Skin Care Solution, 4.0 Ounce for Post Shaving & Waxing

This one might be TMI, but I get ingrown hair and razor burn like nobodies business. Every time I get out of the shower I put a little of this on a cotton ball and apply it to my armpits and lady business and boom, no more issues.

5.) Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging ConcealerImage result for Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer

Shape Tape will always be my holy grail of concealer, but this one is a close second. If I am just running out of the house and don’t want to put on a full face but want something to cover my dark circles I usually put a little bit of this on. It is full coverage and thick, but applies like a dream. It blends out easily and doesn’t look cakey. Sometimes I even use it instead of my Shape Tape even though it feels like cheating.

6.)  All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting SprayImage result for all nighter setting spray

Back to what I said before, I’m the oiliest human alive. I have yet to find a setting spray that work 100% but I honestly doubt that will happen because I am looking to be as matte as possible which just isn’t a reality for me. But I’ve started using this to dampen my beauty blender which has made a huge difference. Honestly 8/10 I times forget to spray my face when I’m done with my makeup, but at least have some to secure my foundation and concealer. My makeup stays and instead of just sitting on top of my face it actually blends.

**I usually buy this in travel size because it’s like $5 and last six months**

7.) Scalpmaster Shampoo BrushScalpmaster Shampoo Brush, Purple 1 Count

Okay this one is ridiculous but has made a HUGE impact on my hair. It’s literally a dollar on Amazon. It’s a comb. But lord have mighty I am addicted. I have naturally thick hair that is super oily and slick. By using this every day when shampooing, my hair feels cleaner (because I am for sure reaching every spot of my scalp) and not as dry (in Wisconsin winters flaking is unavoidable because of how dry it is outside). My hair feels healthier and more maintained because I can easily brush through it after a shower with my Wet Brush. I love it. It is also so small and has a loop on the back that makes it easy  to control. Only thing about this is one of my close friends who has the THICKEST hair known to man said it tangles her hair, but then again I don’t know how she uses it and her hair may just be too thick.

All in all these products are ones I use on the DAILY. They are products I could never travel without. These are some of the products I’ve truly grown to trust and work best for me.

Lipgloss be poppin’

I have always been in love with makeup, but it wasn’t until the last few years that I’ve gotten halfway decent at it. One thing I’ve always loved is lipstick, I think that comes from how much my mom wore it. She had (and I still have it, I know that’s gross) a Mary-Kate and Ashley brand lip color that she would wear. I think the fact that it’s a Mary-Kate and Ashley brand you should be able to figure out that this lip color is old (I don’t use it, just keep it for the memories).

The thing is, sophomore year of high school this boy I was ~seeing~ made a comment about how my lips were too big for my face, and I believed him. I never wore lipstick because of this, even though I know it was just a snide comment, it stuck with me that lipstick would just exaggerated my already too large of lips.

But then I remembered, boys ain’t shit.

So in college I fell in love with it again. I have a huge collection and tend to stick to darker tones. I have a few high end brands that I live for

  • Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lipsticks: I know they’re the same formula as colourpop, but I love the branding and will be a Kardashian/Jenner fan until I die. My favorite shade I own is “Kristen”. It can be slightly drying, but I have never had any problems with flaking, discoloration, or transferring. Only issue is it requires a lip liner- which when I’m lazy seems like the end of the world. This red shade is the only red I will wear, because it’s bright enough to catch some looks, but doesn’t have the whole clown effect. (top left photo)
  • Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint: If I had to choose one lipstick to wear for the rest of my life it would be this in the shade “Rose”. I can not say a single bad thing about this lipstick. It i THE PERFECT NUDE. I know that’s a big claim but I truly truly TRULY believe it. Does not stain, does not transfer, does not require a million coats. This is my holy grail of lipsticks. (top right photo)
  • Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick: If I’m being honest I don’t really like KVD’s brand. The only thing I’ll use is “Lolita” lipstick. The color is beautiful. It last a long time.I don’t like KVD but this lipstick looks hella good when I feel like putting in the effort. (bottom photo)

For drugstore brands there is only one I’ll really use

  • Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color: I own a few shades of this brand, and it’s honestly a very good brand. It’s not drying, flaky, or discolored. Only issue is that it requires multiple applications throughout the time you wear it, which makes it hard when you’re going out and don’t have any pockets or a purse to put it in.

My biggest secret is that I get most of my lip color through Ipsy. For $10 a month you get 5 products, which are usually travel size. I’ve never been disappointed with a month. Yes, there’s products that I don’t use that I’ve received but every month I have received a full size lipstick (usually from a brand I don’t recognize, but have received colourpop and MAC) and have loved every single one. Basically, I’m getting a tube of lipstick for only $10. It’s a blessing.

Moral of the story: don’t listen to dumb boys and wear all of the lipsticks.
